6 Months this time

At last the 10th has arrived, having decided that our first stop would be in Kulin at the free camp in the centre of town, we enjoyed our first day of travel. Turning into the free camp upon arrival we were surprised to see the Porta House parked there. We thought they had already crossed the Nullarbor and were almost home in Queensland.
Greetings, cuppa`s and lots of talking later, we decided it would be nice to travel together for a while before parting ways.
Friday saw us heading out towards Norseman on the dirt road. McDermid Rock being our destination as we travelled through the Woodland Way. The clouds began to look threatening the further east we went. Just after the turn off to The Breakaways a light rain started to fall, getting heavier as we went on, the road getting wetter and muddier. With another 20 odd kilometres to go we continued on carefully.

Arriving at the rock we picked our spot then the boys proceeded to collect buckets of water to wash the Toyota, Caravan, Truck and Trailer as they were all covered in mud!!!!!

We were quite content to sit and wait for another day for the road to dry out before moving on, so out came the bbq to cook a roast the washing also got done as the rain had cleared. The next day was spent wandering around on the rock, checking out the pools in the holes on the rock and plants around on the rock.

A relaxing day was spent watching the small lizards soaking up the sunshine during the day.
Sunday saw us on the way again the road was really dry even had dust from the vehicles. Stopped in Norseman to fuel up and restock a bit.
Newman Rock was our next stop, after a good run we found a spot and setup. Graham did a check of the truck and discovered oil all over the back end coming from the diff. Upon closer inspection it was found the seal seemed to be leaking.

The guys topped it up with oil and we continued on to Balladonia the next day, no oil was available there so we had frequent stops to check the oil level and top it up with what oil Graham had with him.
Head winds are a problem slowing us down so we camp up early.
This morning Tuesday we left camp with the Sparrows to beat the wind for a few hours then we stopped for breakfast and a cuppa, we hope to make the border by lunch time if the wind is kind to us. Yay we made it to the 10k peg rest spot past the border so bbq roast pork was cooked for tea. Yummy we all stuffed ourselves, and then early to bed as another early morning coming up to beat the wind again.
We had to fuel up again at Nundroo. Mischief has been sick on and off on the trip and we are all becoming a bit concerned about him so decided to go onto Penong
A fantastic run and we made it to Penong Caravan Park for the night.
The town is making a museum of all the old windmills. As the ones along the highway are breaking down they are being replaced with solar pumps, the old mills are being pulled down and restored then re-erected in town at a site near the Caravan Park. It is looking very impressive what has been achieved so far, they would like it all to be a working site.

More washing was done, and off to bed early again only to be woken up in the wee hours by heavy rain.
Discovered that the nearest Vet is in Streaky Bay so that is the next stop to get him checked out if possible. We restocked at Ceduna as usual then on to Streaky Bay only to discover the Vet had closed up shop 2 years ago, the Vet from Port Lincoln comes up once a month and you guessed it he was here yesterday!!!  Sorry Mischief it will be a couple more days.
The farmers must have had enough rain as there is a few tractors out spraying, the paddocks are looking green. We set off for Elliston Caravan Park as it is closer to Port Lincoln if the Vet was required quickly. After getting set up the boys headed for the jetty to throw a line in, Tim caught 1 Squid and Graham a small shark which he through back. We were given some smoked Salmon and another fish by other in the park so we had a lovely feed of fresh fish for tea.

This is a very pretty spot with spectacular cliffs.
I have a video not sure if it will work but am going to upload in the hope it will. I still need lots of practise. Ok blogger tells me it can only be 100mb and mine is 345mb so it don`t work!!!
See you next time.
