At 8:15am 58ks east of Warburton a passing car throw a rock into the window screen again put a crack in it. A spot mend sticker was applied and on we went.
The roads have some bad spots but mostly good, dust seeping in through the smallest spots so have a fine layer over most things.
Some of the country is beautiful in our eyes.
Desert Oak Forest
Saw some camels on a sand hill so had to stop for photos they did not seem at all concerned about us.
Heaps of rocks on the sides of the road Graham said they were Noah`s Ballist dumped there to lighten his load... made sense to us lot.
Morning tea at Yarla Kutjarra Campsite there being a shelter to sit in and a long drop loo which we all made use of....... This was our intended camp site the night before but ended up being to far for us to go.
Had phone signal so messages kept pinging in for us to answer. The rubber mud flaps on the trailer were cracking around the screws so Tim got his trusty drill out and fix them.
A good days travel to Warakurna Roadhouse we booked into the caravan park with the intention of doing the washing - problem - No washing machine all away being fixed!!!
So a bit of hand washing was the job to be done.
We decided another night here was in order, Tim and Julian went off to inspect the Surveyor Generals Corner for the day to find the post.
By Tim.
The borders of WA, NT & SA about a 4 hour trip.
There was some very interesting scenery with the hills and ranges.
Once we were in the general area of the turn off for the borders there were no sign posts, so we had to back track and eventually got Google earth to pin point how to get there, (Thank goodness for the settlements/ communities that all have mobile phones).
With the aid of Google earth we were able to find surveyor Generals Corner.
It is a disgrace as there are no signs, the roads, they weren`t even tracks.
But yes we were in 3 states at once. It was still worth the effort to go there.
Thursday all packed up by 8:30 and off to Giles weather station to do the tour. You guessed it,
No tours. We checked out what was in the station museum room and outside. The salvage of the Blue Streak Rocket, Len Beadells Grader which was used to make the roads through the centre.
We watched the weather balloon release until it disappeared from sight.
It`s there somewhere.....
As luck would have it on the side of the road we found the remains of a weather balloon, the silver kite with long weight, string and part of the balloon Julian grabbed them to keep.
We stopped at a camp site just passed the border WA/NT, which is run by the aboriginal community, someone has pinched the solar panels that kept the water pump going which ran to the loo`s, showers and taps. A lovely spot with quite a lot of shade.
Onto Docker River settlement, as Warburton was an eye opener this was one step better than that!
Further on down the road we came to Lasseters cave, we were going to camp here, but No camping is permitted as the ranger`s house is just there.
We found a spot further up the road and set up for the night.
A mob of camels came reasonably close. Not close enough to take good photos.
See you next time.
Looks like some very interesting country you are traveling through, loving all the photos. Keep safe and Happy Easter to you all. Love Maudie.
