39 Burdekin Falls Dam

Hmmmmm, Tony and Sue have problems with their car. It has been carted off on the back of a truck to be fixed. They are stuck in Charters Towers for a bit and will catch up with us later.
Our Taj Mahal and Porta House have gone on to Burdekin Falls Dam to spend a few days.
A really good road all the way out which runs through station country. Lots of grids and cattle in really good condition along the way. Had a really good run and arrived about 11:30am just in time for lunch.

Checked out the caravan park, while doing that Kathy took a tumble and ended up with mud all over her bottom and leg. Also a nice couple of scratches on the top of her right foot. Desma just stood and had a good laugh.

Back at the caravan the boys sorted out the pots sorted hooked up the boat and went to put the pots in the water and try fishing.
They came back with 27 nice Red Claw which we had for tea, but no fish. They will check the pots again in the morning.
Monday and Tuesday were lovely days every time the boys checked the pots they came back with more Red Claw to be cleaned and cooked. We did stuff ourselves stupid on them but had a relaxing time doing it.

Wednesday we packed up wishing we could stay longer the caravan park is a credit to the caretakers who look after it.
Not far from the park are the old  foundations of the houses and camp from the dam construction days.

The Dam; The Burdekin river catchment encompasses approximately 130,000 square kilometres of the state of Queensland.
The catchment, bounded by the Great Dividing Range, extends from Ingham to Rockhampton and west to Torrens creek, near Hughenden.
The river enters the coastal plain through a narrow gap in the ranges reaching the sea at an active delta.
Burdekin Falls Dam supplies water to farms in the Burdekin Haughton water supply scheme in the cities of Townsville and Thuringowa.
The dam was further developed to include a Hydro Electric Power station to provide sustainable electricity for North Queensland.
