After spending 8 days at Point Lowly
we started heading north.
The Petrochemical plant has grown since last time though One Steel in Whyalla is having problem is not good for the town.
It was raining as we pulled out of
there on the way to Port Augusta, where we fuelled up then onto the Stuart
Highway to our next camp spot.
We had a tail wind which helped to
push us along. The country looks different going this way, seems all new to us.
A lot more road kill this time we have
also seen some Wedge tail Eagles feeding on the roadkill as well. Very
dangerous for them as when a vehicle comes along they don’t have time to take
off and get out of the way, the end result they are hit and killed.
Woomera was our destination but The military
museum at Woomera was not open so decided not to go in there.
We stopped at Spuds Roadhouse the turn
off to Woomera for a lunch and loo break. After hot chips, salad and cuppa we were ready to move again onto Lake Hart to
camp.
Lake Hart is salt and in the shape of
a heart lots of flies greeted us when we stepped out of the vehicles after
Graham had done some cultivating of the earth…….
We had another cuppa then did a wander
down to the lake, we stopped at the top of the sand hill and took photos of
others out on the lake.
Lake Hart
Next morning we were off again for
Coober Pedy it was a lovely sunny day a real change after it being overcast and
raining at Point Lowly.
The country looks quite green in
places which is a real change from our last trip through here where it was very
dry and dead looking. It seems that
when hills and ridges appear there is a change in the trees and shrubs they
being much taller then when it flattens out again it goes back to being very
low shrubby blue bush stuff.
Kathy sneaked into the drivers seat
and drove half the distance to Coober Pedy only
the second time she has driven towing the caravan. She seemed quite
comfortable and confident, go girl!
Only staying here to rest and relax,
do the blog, charge all the batteries ready for the next part where we will
free camp on the way to Alice Springs.
All is going well after having to buy
two new batteries for the caravan and Engels in the Toyota.
Take care we will return.
Good to hear all is going well for you, travel on so we can enjoy it second hand. love Maudie.
