43 Magnetic Island

Up earlier this morning and off to catch the ferry across to Magnetic Island just off the mainland from Townsville 6-8ks.

“A bit of trivia” The island was named so because when James Cook passed by the island his compass played up. James thought that the island was magnetic and it was affecting his compass. As we know today the island is not magnetic, it was James compass that was faulty.

We arrived after a very smooth crossing at Nelly bay, not knowing how things worked wandered around looking for the bus that would take us all over the island.
As it turned out it was at the ferry terminal and by this time it had left so we had about 45 minutes to wait. Had a cuppa from the on site coffee stall wandered around again looking at the sights around Nelly bay.
These little guys live in the rocks right on the ocean.

Caught the bus to Picnic bay went up over the hills. Scenery was beautiful, lots of rock formations and trees, palms and beaches. We found a Life boat on the beach. With a 12 man power motor in the lifeboat. The only day we went the museum was closed, that’s the way it goes.

On the bus again off to Horseshoe bay we were. We think the driver was trying to calm the passengers as there was music playing very loudly as he drove over the hills, corners and valleys with the front and back end of the bus hanging over the edge of the road.
Horseshoe bay has life guards on the beach. We had lunch at the beach Fish and Chips yum…….
Looked around checked the shops had ice cream each as well another yum…

On the bus to Arcadia bay more life guards here spectacular scenery again, The bus drivers had heaps of confidence driving the roads all the time and it showed.

Back on the ferry at 3pm this trip was a bit rougher though still enjoyable as we were all up on the open top deck. A wonderful day which we all enjoyed.
