Beacon

Beacon via Kalannie 8th, 9th, 10th
Onto Beacon via Kalannie, which we did not realise was so big. All the crops in this area look absolutely brilliant which surprised us, lush, green and in good head.
Stopped in Kalannie and shopped for a few bits, Tim stirred the lady in the shop up asking what was there in Kalannie to make us want to live there? All he got in reply was a splutter…..

Arriving in Beacon we found the information centre picked up some maps then to the Caravan park. The park manager showed up at 5pm to collect fees for 3 nights then presented us with 3 $10 vouchers to spend anywhere in town. We visited the “Mens Shed” had a cuppa with Bruce who imparted lots of information and history about the machinery and items in the shed. A very interesting 2 hours spent chatting and looking at everything.
Love the way the sign is made

Hot shower and off to bed for someZZZZZZZzzzzzzz`s
Up earlier the next morning heading for Billiburning Rock about 50ks out. This is a lovely spot there are camping area`s set out also a toilet around the back of the rock very impressed by this. While having morning tea we did a wander around and found some lovely orchids. How John Forrest found his way through all the bush here still beats us, also the ingenuity of the first settlers in how they harnessed the water run off from the rocks when it rained is incredible and is still in use today.

Huge clumps of these orchids here all look lovely

Crimpy`s Tank was worth the visit to see again the rock walls and pipe to channel the water into an approximately 4.5 million litre tank, built of reinforced concrete in 1966, it stores rainwater collected by a low rock wall surrounding the nearby granite rock.

Back to town to shower. Thursday night is cook up at the Country club so you know where we went for dinner to use our vouchers.
A lovely friendly clean town, has new information bay with toilet, and dump point in the main street (Lucas Street).
A place to return to when the flowers are all out again next year.

  1. The crops look pretty good and what Flowers you did find look great, glad you are having a good time. By the way Tim your fix up of the down pipe works fantastic, I haven't had any water leaks at all so far and we have had quite a bit of rain. Thank you. Love Maudie.
