We left
Geraldton on Monday heading for the station stay near Yalgoo.
Passing through
Mullewa we stopped to top up with fuel, then continued on to Pindar where we
diverted to look at the wreath flowers about 9 KS north of Pindar.
Finding them
was easy though they were not out to their full splendour .
We had lunch
outside the old hotel while reading the information panel in the parking area,
then onto the station.
Arrived at
Gabyon Station Stay early afternoon booked in and got settled.
Our hosts
were very welcoming and we were told just grab a junk of dirt and park your
van.
Although the
amenities are quite basic with heaps of hot hot water in the showers after we
lit the donkey (Which is the hot water system for those that don’t know).
The camp
kitchen has a wonderful huge wood stove to cook on.
We were
invited for happy hour every evening at the homestead which was great.
Here is a link
to information about the station
Because the
station is so big all the paddocks have been given a name they range in size
from 2,000 to 10,000 acres. This year’s season
has been really good with lots of growth and an abundance of wild flowers.
We can see
where the creeks and gullies have run and there is still a lot of water lying
around.
Looking at
the animal tracks on the dirt roads there is a lot of wildlife in the area
though we only saw about 6 Kangaroos all up. 1 Emu and lots of birds.
We were
supplied with a map of the station with flower drives marked for 4x4s, hence
the named paddocks helped us to keep track of where we were at all times.
This is really old yards made out of tree trunks
Quandong lots of fruit
The wind is
freezing so coats to keep warm were the order of the day.
The Friday
before we arrived Gemma Cripps father had an accident in his Ultra-light
thankfully he is ok just bruised and shaken up, the Ultra-light sad to say came
out second best.
Some of the sheep they run and breed
We spent 4
very enjoyable days here and would certainly return again for another stay
though maybe longer next time.
YAY!!!!
