Pergandes
Sheep Yards & On
Started out
this morning “Very Cold” 3 degrees when ready off to the “Pergandes Sheep Yards”
we went.
Very much
like Stonehenge. It is marvellous what a person can do with what`s at hand. The
ingenuity that people come up with and how to transport and shift bits.
These stone
slab sheep yards are a good example of this. Not only have they picked up the
already loose slabs off the bedrock they also used fire and water to crack off
more slabs. Then shift them and erect them by hand. WOW.
The photo`s don’t
do the old buildings justice, from the ruins and footings of the old shearing
shed and house, you could see that as extra was required they built on very
impressive!!
The height
of the slabs surprised us some were so big.
Traveling on
to the town of Trayning and had a drive around lots of closed down businesses
and houses for sale, not one shop open that we could see.
A lot of
very nice wheat crops still, though an odd few not looking so good. In the town
of Kununoppin thinking it would be a blink and you`ll miss it, but no. There is
still a hospital, an electrician with a shop front office, all in all not a bad
little town.
Had morning
tea then wandered along the main street taking photos. Back at the caravan
there was a gentleman on a ride on mower cutting the weeds about 2 foot high,
who had finished the bit he was doing so came over for a chat, gave us a bit of
history of the town. Turned out where he was mowing was the site of the
original hotel and the bowling green now just a bare block.
Next stop
Nungarin Caravan Park. A nice new one built at the back of the sports centre.
Settled in after a long discussion with the shire office people about what is
happening in the area, there is a meeting about NBN and telephone`s mobile, so
me being me (Tim) said “Ok this will mean that I will be able to get digital TV
all over now, when this mobile stuff is put in”. I was looked at as if I had
horns growing out of my head and was told “Yes the country get everything out
here; you just ask the pollies? All in all not a bad looking town with quite a
bit of history and things to see.
More to
come.
Couldn't see any one making yards and buildings like these in this day and age now very interesting great photos love us
