Australian Aviation Heritage Centre

Tim wrote this one for you.
Once inside pasted the buy me bits into the hanger which is huge!
The first thing to catch ones eye is the B52. It is “humungus” taking up almost the full length and width of the hanger.

There are some big and small planes and other items set up as displays underneath the wings of the B52. There is a continuous video playing on the bombing of Darwin during WWII with a lot of wreckage from different planes displayed with information as to where and what happened to it. These all found after the bombing.
I found It very interesting also the skeleton shells of some of the planes, how did they fly?
But looking at their engines and the horse power they put out it was incredible!

This is the Soldiers Doggerel circa 1941 (Anon)

Bloody Darwin
Part 1
This bloody town`s a bloody cuss,
No bloody trams, no bloody bus,
And no one cares for bloody us,
Oh bloody, bloody Darwin.

The bloody roads  are bloody bad,
The bloody folks are bloody mad,
They even say` you bloody cad`,
Oh bloody, bloody Darwin

All bloody clouds and bloody rain,
All  bloody stones, no bloody drains,
The Council`s got no bloody brain`s,
Oh bloody, bloody Darwin.

And everything`s so bloody dear,
A bloody bob for bloody beer,
And is it good? No bloody fear,
Oh bloody, bloody Darwin.

Bloody Darwin
Part 2

The bloody `flicks` are bloody old,
The bloody seats are bloody cold,
And can`t get in for bloody gold,
Oh bloody, bloody Darwin

The bloody dances make me smile,
The bloody band is bloody vile,
The only cramp your bloody style,
Oh bloody, bloody Darwin.

No bloody sports, no bloody games,
No bloody fun with bloody dames,
Won`t even give their bloody names,
Oh bloody, bloody Darwin.

Best bloody place is bloody bed,
With bloody ice on bloody head,
And then they say your bloody dead,
Oh bloody, bloody Darwin.

All in all a good couple of hours wandering around, too much information to impart here but definitely worth the visit.
Please check the website for a look at some of what we saw
