74 Onto Mt Surprise, Georgetown and Croydon.

Left Ravenshoe at about 9 this morning had a good run to Mount Surprise. The country changed almost as soon as we let Ravenshoe.  A real change after all the green of the rain forests.

We called into the Undara lava tubes but they were all booked out for tours.
We had booked in at Mount Surprise Bedrock Village so kept going. We all thought at $76 each person was a bit expensive. Needless to say they did not get our money.

Bedrock Village Caravan Park at Mount Surprise is lovely nice shady sites, clean ablutions with really hot water and heaps of it. Fabulous recreation room and laundry with 3 washing machines @ $3 a load. Friendly owners and staff added to the enjoyment of our stay. We did a walking tour of the town, visited the Gem shop after looking we paid for a bucket of river sand to look for Topaz stones. After shaking and sifting through it all we came away with 3 natural Topaz about 10ml x 8ml x 5ml in size, and were told 1 was suitable to be cut for a ring. We followed the path at the back of the park to Elizabeth Creek for a look see; it was very pretty and relaxing just wandering beside the water.

Off to Croydon tomorrow we will stop at Georgetown to check out Terrestrial the information centre which houses the Ted Elliot Mineral Collection – Fantastic! We spent a very enjoyable hour or so wandering through it.

The park in Georgetown is really pretty lovely and green so we enjoyed our cuppa sitting there had a friendly bird come visit us looking for food.
After a delicious lunch of fish and chips we headed along a bit further to Croydon.

Cattle crossing the road just wandering along not a care in the world...
