70 Steam Railways from Ravenshoe to Tumoulin

Ravenshoe 2969 feet above sea level has one of the very few steam trains that are still running, if only on Sundays. Run by volunteers, who do a mighty job!

So of course we had to go steam training as you do. Three passenger cars and two open trucks (old produce wagons). The train travelled to the next town Tumoulin only about 10ks away.

 Ravenshoe Station

It took about 45 minutes. This was and is the highest railway station in Queensland 3165 feet above sea level. We chose to go in the last open wagon or the trip up. Had Devonshire tea sitting outside the station buildings in Tumoulin.

On the way back the engine was turned around and we were now first behind the engine and rattled and rolled home.

Was an awesome experience, well worth the afternoon. Some of the country looked like around Boyup Brook with trees that looked like Jarrah and red gum, but the experts here tell us NO WAY these are only Queensland trees!
Tim was expecting to see a turn table at Tumoulin for the train to turn around but no; it was a triangle type turn as you can see on the map.

A lovely afternoon out.
